Lizzy’s
This smoothie bowl place was the place that basically fed me throughout my time in Shanghai. I must admit I only cooked about once in our own kitchen during my time in this country. So, a place with super fresh, nutritious und uber delicious smoothie bowls was more than welcome to keep me healthy and well-nourished during my time in the city. My favorite go-to bowl was the peanut butter smoothie bowl. I basically influenced my whole class to fall in love with this particular bowl of goodness. Oh, and I ate a year’s supply of cookies during my three months stay in Shanghai. Lizzy’s bakes the best soft and doughy chocolate chip cookies. Addictive.
Godly
Are you up for traditional Chinese Wonton Soup? This is your spot. In a small restaurant, reminding of a living room a cute Chinese woman prepares the most delicious food in no time. She basically cooks right in front of your eyes. Judging from the Chinese people going in and out to take pre-prepared filled noodles with them, I would say this is also a Chinese secret spot.
K11 – Sze Fong
This was definitely my favorite addiction during my time in Shanghai. I basically had Mochis every other day, sometimes every single day to be honest with you. At Sze Fong, one can find vegan and glutenfree Mochis filled with either fruit or nuts and seeds. My favorite flavors were fresh mango, walnut & poppy seeds, and peanut. I wish I could’ve taken a life supply with me. I am not joking when I say that I would simply go back there for this goodness.
Vegetarian Lifestyle
Vegetarian Lifestyle is the place where we had our first Chinese meal in Shanghai. It’s a simple place but the food is good and traditional Chinese with the bonus that they have a huge vegan selection. Definitely a good place for a casual dinner.
Pure & Whole
Pure & Whole is a super nice place for lunch or dinner. The selection of dishes is very vast and everything is marked with dietary preferences. I even took my date there as it feels like a classy place during the evening. The food is prepared in no time and tastes delicious. I really liked their curries.
Wagas
At this chain restaurant, you’ll find everything from healthy salads to juices. I was mostly there to grab a good green juice to fuel up on chlorophyll and other vital nutrients that were not included in my Mochis nor in my smoothie bowls. It’s also quite a nice place for meetings and for doing some work on the side.
Hunter & Gatherer
Here you can either pick and choose ingredients to create your own dish or you can order a preselected combination from the menu. This place is definitely more European. I must say I was mostly into their juice selection. You can even get a pure celery juice there. Oh, and don’t forget to try their vegan chocolate chip cookie. It’s a good one.
