What Happens After We Die? A Christian View of Eternity
Have you ever wondered what really happens after we die?
Is it heaven? Nothingness? Reincarnation? For many, this question feels distant, something to ponder “later.” But Scripture says eternity is written on our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11), and what we believe about the afterlife shapes how we live today.
In the latest episode of the DAUGHTERS podcast, we dive deep into the Christian view of life after death, resurrection, and the eternal hope we have in Jesus. This isn’t just theology; it’s a truth that changes everything.

What Is Eschatology? (And Why It’s Not Just About the End)
Eschatology is the study of “last things”; death, judgment, resurrection, and the new creation. But it’s not just about “the end.” It’s really about the beginning of eternity.
“He has put eternity into man's heart.” – Ecclesiastes 3:11 (ESV)
Understanding eschatology helps us see that this life isn’t all there is, but it does matter. What we do now echoes into eternity.
Life After Death: With Christ Now, Resurrected Later
Immediate Presence With Jesus
Scripture is clear… for those who belong to Christ, death is not the end. It’s a transition into His presence.
“Away from the body... at home with the Lord.”
– 2 Corinthians 5:6–8
“To die is gain... to depart and be with Christ is far better.”
– Philippians 1:21–23
Jesus Himself confirmed this truth to the thief on the cross:
“Today you will be with Me in paradise.”
– Luke 23:43
This is the immediate hope: to be with Christ.
But Resurrection Is Still to Come
Our final hope isn’t just a spiritual afterlife, it’s a bodily resurrection in a renewed creation.
“The dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.”
– 1 Corinthians 15:52
Just like Jesus rose in a glorified body, believers will too — to live, walk, eat, and worship in the new heavens and new earth (Revelation 21).
From Eden to the Garden City
The Bible tells a story that begins in a garden and ends in a Garden City.
Genesis: A Garden of Purpose
“The Lord God planted a garden... and there he put the man whom he had formed.”
– Genesis 2:8
Eden was where God walked with man. It was beautiful, intimate, and full of purpose. Humanity’s call was to work it and keep it — to co-create with God.
Revelation: A City Where Heaven Comes Down
“I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God...”
– Revelation 21:2
In the end, heaven doesn’t just take us away — it comes down. The Tree of Life reappears (Revelation 22), and we dwell with God in a renewed world, full of culture, worship, and eternal purpose.
Why This Life Still Matters: Eternity Starts Now
Too often, we hear the phrase “You only live once.” But the Bible teaches something far more hopeful and weighty:
“Whoever believes... has passed from death to life.”
– John 5:24
Eternal life isn’t just something we wait for — it begins now in Christ.
“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows... he will also reap.”
– Galatians 6:7
Everything you do — in faith, love, obedience — lasts. You are already becoming who you will be in eternity.
Work, Worship, and the Kingdom We’re Practicing For
Your work is not wasted.
Scripture says we will reign with Christ (Revelation 22:5). Our work today — when done in love and purpose — is a preview of our eternal calling.
Even Sabbath is a glimpse of what’s to come: rest, delight, communion with God.
“There remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.”
– Hebrews 4:9
When we slow down, we remember who we are — daughters of the King, invited into His eternal rhythm of grace.

Final Thoughts: You’re Not Just Living for Now
The YOLO mindset says, “Do what feels good now — nothing else matters.”
But the Bible says: Everything matters.
“Let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken.”
– Hebrews 12:28
You are not hustling toward burnout. You’re walking with Jesus toward eternity.
One day, you will reign with Him in a kingdom that will never end. And every act of faith, every moment of obedience, every Sabbath rest — will stand.
